About headsparkup

A production guide built by working editors

headsparkup started as a set of internal notes passed between newsroom mentors in London. Today it's a full training programme covering story angles, newsroom planning, script preparation and the editorial workflows that carry a story from pitch to publish.

What we stand for

Our mentors have sat on desks at national newsrooms, broadcasters and digital newsrooms across the UK. We built headsparkup to pass on what actually gets a story commissioned and out the door on time.

  • Editorially rigorous

Every framework we teach has been tested against a real newsroom deadline, not just a classroom.

  • Practical over theoretical

You leave each session with a usable template, checklist or script — not just a slide deck.

  • Mentored, not just taught

Working editors review your drafts personally, the way a commissioning desk actually would.
